This cleaner will get out ANYTHING. New and very old stains are no problem. I have tried everything on these multiple spots that were left by the previous owner. 4 years later, this stuff, take them out in just one small application. AMAZING is the only word that I can use to describe this cleaner.
It will take out dirt, oil, grease, wine, mold, blood,.....ANYTHING and only in one application!

Wagner 905 1,500-Watt On-Demand Power Steamer and Cleaner Review

Wagner 905 1,500-Watt On-Demand Power Steamer and Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First let me say... I am an agonizer-analyzer. I read all of the reviews out there on Amazon and the web that I can find. I was down to this... the Shark vs. Wagner steamers. Both seemed similar in reviews... I saved $5 bucks by purchasing the Wagner. I received it 1 day earlier then expected. I opened the box and dug in (yes, I am also a person that doesn't necessarily read the instructions... until I can't get something to work that is.) Guess what? EVERYTHING worked without reading the instructions. Note to the wise, it is probably best if you do. I have since gone back to ensure I was operating the machine safely and correctly.
I LOVE IT! When people say in their reviews that they couldn't stop cleaning stuff, it is SOOOOOO true. These are the things I have cleaned so far. 3 kitchen sinks. I couldn't believe how clean they became. They are all stainless and shining like mad. I really do believe they are clean enough to eat out of them (not that I would). I have granite counters with this itty bitty grout between the sinks and the counters. I didn't realize they used white grout... oh my gosh, they look like they were just put in and they are 11 years old.
What else? Yes, I didn't stop there. I went over to the stove. It is stainless steel with gas fixtures and iron grates. Do you know how many cleaners I have purchased for the black metal top that have never made it look like it was really totally clean? MANY, MANY, MANY. This machine did it! And I honestly have to say, I didn't put any real elbow grease in at all. It lifted stains that I thought were permanent. It also removed a burn mark in the stainless steel which had been there for at least 3 years (with a lot of scrubbing that didn't take it away). And, after using the machine, it was really only a matter of wiping a little water residue away.
I really like the length of the handle/hose. I left it on top of one counter and was able to walk around the kitchen without worrying if the yellow beauty was going to fall off the counter or not reach where I wanted to take it. Gotta LOVE IT!
Ok, the above were only a few things that I cleaned in the first 15 minutes of opening the box. I probably could have cleaned more but I figured I would save my joy for another day.
A few other comments... I read a review that it was loud to operate. The machine itself doesn't make any noise. It isn't like a motor is going while you are trying to clean. The only noise that is made is the high-pressure steam coming out of the nozzle. What do these people really expect? Hello.... It was music to my ears because of the clean-up it was doing. I can imagine that you wouldn't want to be locked in a small closed in space for long... but hey, it didn't take that long to see it sparkle.
This truly is a great investment, fun to use with FANTASTIC results.
YAHOO!

Bissell ProHeat Upright Deep Cleaner, 25A3 Review

Bissell ProHeat Upright Deep Cleaner, 25A3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I upgraded from an older Bissell Little Green Machine to this unit based primarily on my experience with Bissell products. The PROheat has a number of nice features that ultimately sold me on it and after using it for a few months now I'm fairly pleased with it. I particularly like that you can choose to either have the heat on or off. I've heard some people say that using the heat can break down your carpets more quickly and cause the stain to get worse as it picks up new dirt that is tracked in. I don't know if that's not the case, but since my old Bissell unit lacked heat but did a fine job, I pretty much use this minus the heat. Even with the heat off I'm stunned at how good a job this unit does. It's even cleaned stains that I gave up as a lost cause. Most astonishingly, I usually vacuum first before using the steamer and then vacuum again once it's dry. I've discovered I actually vacuum up MORE dirt after steam cleaning than I did before. Clearly this machine is knocking loose built up dirt which means cleaner and nicer appearing carpets than ever before. I also liked the wand attachment from my old Little Green machine, especially for upholstered pieces and hard to reach spots and this thankfully has that.
But there are some drawbacks and limitations. At least initially you will pick up a LOT of carpet fibers when you use the machine, which means FREQUENT cleaning of the rotating brushes and especially the multiple filters on the unit. In some instances I wound up using tweezers to get out fibers from the particularly small filter on the underside of the water tank. The one on top is easier to clean out, but particles trap almost everywhere on this machine. The water tank holds a pitifully small amount of water and/or cleaning solution which means frequent refills, and it slows down the whole cleaning process. The self contained tank is easy to empty, but if you think that will eliminate odors from dirty water guess again, it doesn't. The tank does seem to leak or the seals don't hold tight and so dirty water does collect in the well that the tank sits in, which ads to the nasty smells as well as adding yet another think you have to clean up. Another particularly annoying habit is the dirty water seeping out the front of the machine by the cleaning rollers when you turn off and store the machine. This is really disgusting and trust me, don't store it on carpet or even leave it sitting there for very long as it WILL leak! When in use loose fibers tend to gather on the underside of the machine around the brush rollers so you manually have to gather it up by hand, which slows down the cleaning process. Once you've cleaned your carpet a few times that problem (hopefully) should minimize, although it has yet to happen for me. As a result there's a considerable amount of maintenance you have to do to ensure your machine is operating under optimum conditions. Even so, it's hard to argue with the results. I would probably buy this same unit again, but would also read up on other models just in case they operate more easily. Perhaps I was used to the utter simplicity of the Little Green Machine and sometimes I wish I was still using it, sad to say.

Hoover Platinum Collection Carpet Cleaner with MaxExtract Technology, F8100900 Review

Hoover Platinum Collection Carpet Cleaner with MaxExtract Technology, F8100900
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We should really be hired to test vacuum and carpet cleaners, but even so the price of this dream clean machine gave me some pause (okay, a lot). With 2 kids, 3 dogs, and 2 cats and fairly light carpets, we put our cleaners to the test. I have gone through SEVERAL carpet cleaners (roughly 1 every 2 years) and have also had the carpets professionally cleaned. Honestly, this carpet cleaner cleaned as well if not better than the pros, and worlds better than our current Hoover F6207-900 SteamVac Lite Carpet Cleaner with Heated Cleaning.
Pros:
1) Handle can lay back fully with no strain on the hose - I mention this after replacing the hoses several times on previous Hoovers
2) You do NOT have to mix the detergent!!!! Wow - what a great feature, no waste!
3) 2 separate rollers actually scrub the carpet amazingly well
4) No fuss dial system - incredibly easy to go between standard clean, spot clean (does not pick up so you can scrub, scrub, scrub away the years of bad carpet cleaners), and rinse (the water rinse is GREAT!)
5) Easy to follow indicator lights let you know if you know when it is cleaning (detergent), rinsing (water only), or drying (neither light on)
6) Spot clean is easy to follow - actually squirts out the front so you can actually see the spot you are hitting (2 settings, spray or stream)
7) My previous Hoovers had this obnoxious detachable hose reel, and then when the clips that hold it on break, you find yourself dragging accessories around the house - this one is not detachable.
8) The hose remains attached, you don't have to plug it in, so no hose door to break and lose (yeah, I've done that too)
9) Scrubber assembly comes off easily for cleaning (but not the front roller, which might be a problem if you don't maintain it)
10) generous cord longer than previous Hoovers
11) 6 year warranty makes it cheaper than replacing 3 $200 Hoovers with 1 year warranties (just check where your service center is - ours is about 30 miles away and always very responsive)
12) Since it is clear plastic (opposed to grey or purple) it is easier to see when the water being picked up becomes fairly clear indicating you have extracted the maximum amount of dirt you can
Cons:
1) It's big - and heavy - and I have tons of stairs
2) Blue light shining on carpet - this gives me eye strain after a while
3) Waste container - there's no delicate way to dump it - it's opening is like a big bucket and it gets everywhere. I suppose it will get better with practice, and it is easier to clean this way, but I think it was a step backward
4) Very small holes to pour in the detergent and water - buy a funnel since the detergent is pricey
5) Detergent guzzler
Eh's (take 'em or leave 'em):
1) Heat - I don't think it really did much (It didn't feel substantial)
2) Waste container sensor - doesn't detect the detergent well, with the clear plastic, it's pretty obvious when they need emptying/filling
3) Blue light - why blue - simulated uv? It doesn't actually illuminate anything.
4) Carry handle - it's made of molded plastic and is in the back, so... yeah, pretty awkward hoisting it up and down the stairs. But, I really don't have a better option, so am not putting it as a con.
How did it do???
If I had known how well it would do, I would have taken pictures or video, because it is unbelievable. I cleaned my ancient 15 year old carpets (about 1600 sq. feet worth) and actually managed to get them back very near their original color. Shockingly old stains that my kidlets provided that were not removed by the pros or the old cleaners are gone. One caveat here is that I used around 64 ounces of detergent. I started with the professional grade, but used the cheap stuff in the kids' rooms (smells better anyway). Based on the amount used and lack of discernable difference, I cannot recommend the "professional" cleaner but instead Hoover 40321130 Premium Pet Formula Carpet/Upholstery Detergent, 128-Ounce, which has what I would call a lemony scent. If you are scent sensitive, then try Hoover 40321128 Deep Cleansing Carpet/Upholstery Detergent, 128-Ounce. I use the 4-for-3 to really make it a great buy. In any event, I took my time actually read the directions for once and made sure I did several dry passes. I took advantage of the spot clean followed by rinse only for high traffic areas, used the powered hand tool on the stairs, and the upholstery brush on our chairs. All works admirably providing results that made the initial investment worth it. The carpets look amazing and were dry within two hours (aided along by a hot day).

Hoover Deep Cleansing Carpet/Upholstery Detergent, 128-Ounce Review

Hoover Deep Cleansing Carpet/Upholstery Detergent, 128-Ounce
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used this detergent for several months with my Hoover Steamvac and generally like it quite a bit. It is relatively poor at doing much with stains, particularly those that have been in the carpet for a long time (but then again, aren't they all poor at that?), but for traffic lanes where there is a lot of dirt and/or grease, if you take your time and go over it a few times, it is a very good product. I will say that sometimes you have to give it a little time too. I have broken down seemingly impossibly dark areas with this shampoo, although the first pass seemed to do very little, and quickly going over it seemed to only work slowly. So, if all else fails let the water/detergent sit on the area for a little while while you work on another area and then go over it again and see if that helps. It has for me in some instances
There are a couple of things that make me give it a four instead of three, which I would give it based on its cleaning ability. The first is the smell. It is very pleasant and I have had several positive comments on how the carpets smelled after using it. Outside of Hoover's Pet Formula Pet Detergent, this is best smelling detergent I have ever used, and I have worked with many. The other "plus" is that it is easy to remove from the carpet. After I use the detergent, I do at least one "rinse" application where I just use water to get up the residue of chemicals I left behind. With this detergent, it comes up very easily and does not require repeated applications, whereas with many others you must do the same areas many, many times to get all the residue from the carpet.
One last area I want to bring up is "browning". Some chemicals used on carpets have an unpleasant tendency to turn your carpet brown as the chemicals dry on the carpet. To give you an example, I did a carpet and it was quite clean, with few stains remaining. A few days later, I had monstrous brown stains in a few areas on the carpet. I had used several stain removers to help with the original spots, and these were apparently the cause. So, I went over it again with water to remove the browning, but once again they came back when it dried, seemingly with almost the same intensity. Intuitively, I disliked adding more residue by using the detergent, but I figured water was not working so I had nothing to lose(and as I mentioned, this detergent has no residue problem). I used this detergent and apparently it helped remove the other chemicals more effectively and lessened the browning problem I was having. Also, this chemical does not cause browning at all. It was some other chemical I used for the stains (I used too many to know which one, as the initial stains were quite stubborn).
The only reason I am not giving this a five is because I do not want to give the impression that this is some kind of super cleaner and give false expectations. It does work pretty well, and is a very agreeable shampoo to work with, both in odor and ease in which it comes out of the carpet. It also is not harsh on skin if you get some on you. Overall I like it very much and will continue to purchase it as I need it. I probably would even if it did not clean at all, it smells so good.

Bissell QuickSteamer Multi-Surface Upright Deep Cleaner, 2090 Review

Bissell QuickSteamer Multi-Surface Upright Deep Cleaner, 2090
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I go my Quicksteamer last week and spent a day over the weekend cleaning the floors in my condo. I read all of the reviews and did not know what to expect. I was hoping it would do a great job on my carpet and hopefully my wood floors. I have a new puppy so he's been training himself on my carpet a few times. I was almost at the point where I was hoping he would destroy the carpet so I could replace it with wood floors. I looked at a lot of shampooer/steamers and decided that I would go with the Qicksteamer since it does multiple surfaces and small. When I got the box, I was surprise how small the box was. It took me about 3 minutes to put the unit together. It took me longer to get it out of the box. It took me another 5 minutes to figure out and install the hard surface attachment. I was hesitant about how narrow the cleaning surface was but it was compact and light. I started with my bedroom and closet Saturday morning. I dismantled the bed and remove everything from the room. I took over an hour to do all that. I only used hot water and dog urine neutralizer. I had to vacuum and pre-treated a few spots with 409 and a brush. Then I started cleaning. It did a pretty good job with the carpet and the spots that I pre-treated. I was very pleased with the results. For all those people who said it was very wet afterward, I did not have that issue. It was fairly dry right after. I probably took an hour or 2 to completely dry. The small tank was refilled twice and the dirty water tank was emptied twice. It did not get full, it just bubbled a little bit and started spitting out the bubble. I couldn't imagine how bad it would have been if I use the Bissel cleaning formulas. All in all, I was very pleased with the results on the carpet.
I then did the wood floors later that day. I installed the hard surface attachment and used the same hot water/urine neutralizer solution on the wood floors also. I had to sweep the floor first. Then I ran the Quicksteamer on the floors. I was surprise to see how much water was still left on the floor. If you push the unit, there's a lot of water but if you pull, there's less but still more than acceptable. I ended up using a cloth mop afterward to soak up the excess water. I think the Quicksteamer is only a little better than using a cloth mop in that it sprays fresh water on the hard surface but it does not suck it up well enough so you have to go back and mop it up. The hard surface attachment is no more than the scrubber and squeegee part of an auto squeegee. It just blocks the brush from hitting the floor and allow the unit to suck up the water. Disappointed with the hard surface part of the machine.
IMHO, it's a great little unit on carpet but not so great on hard surface.

I bought a Bissel and use this Professional Deep Cleaning Formula to deliver better results than a professional cleaning service. My wife used to pay hundreds of dollars to have our carpets cleaned. With this formula and my Bissel Vaccum cleaner, I have consistently achieved better results at a fraction of the price. I highly recommend it!

Hoover SteamVac Spin Scrub TurboPower Carpet Cleaner with Clean Surge, F5912900 Review

Hoover SteamVac Spin Scrub TurboPower Carpet Cleaner with Clean Surge, F5912900
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My decision to purchase this was mostly on price and gauging its ease of use.
Since renting one from the market is around $50 including shampoo, my thinking was this was an appropriate price to pay for this since after three cleanings, it's yours plus you don't have to return anything.
The other factor is ease of use. This is pretty straightforward. The top container holds the clean water and shampoo. After using, the "sucked up" dirty water is in the container at the bottom.
The Hoover here is nice in that both snap in and out pretty easily.
There are some things to keep in mind.
Try to use near boiling hot water (or a mixture of near boiling water and hot water from the faucet) - you will get a more efficent clean. Pour in the shampoo AFTER you put the water in the container - otherwise you'll get a slew of foam instead of being able to fill it with water to its highest level.
Afterwards, the things always leak some (maybe if you pay $400, it's not a problem) so as soon as you finish, take it outside and start to disassemble the thing. Then dump out the dirty water and hose off the dirty water container. If you can leave it outside for a while to let it dry as it will still drip a little.
This model will do about a 50' by 40' room or so before you need to refill with clean water and empty out the dirty water so if you have many huge rooms, this might not be for you ... or your help will grumble as you have to repeat :-)
If there are specific spots, you still need to spray it with one of those carpet cleaner sprays.
The hose attachment is nice for carpeted stairs but the main unit is pretty bulky so plan carefully so it doesn't tip over (water).
The only real con is that it be nice if the power cord was retractable but other than that, it does what it says it does and the two containers are easy to fill & remove.
Recommended.

Bissell 2X Pet Stain and Odor Advanced Formula, 32 Ounces, 74R7 Review

Bissell 2X Pet Stain and Odor Advanced Formula, 32 Ounces, 74R7
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have only used this concentrated solution with our Bissell Spotbot Pet. Since the formula container for the Spotbot has markings on the side that tell how much formula to add, and we didn't know a non-concentrated formula had ever been available, we were using twice as much (or more) formula as was needed. This meant we ran out of formula quite quickly! I just finally read the back of the bottle (duh!) and found that you're supposed to add two capfuls to the container and fill with hot water up to the formula line. Oops!
So, if you use the concentrated formula, be sure you read the instructions first! While the formula works well, it has a very strong (though pleasant) odor, which might give a sensitive person an allergic reaction. I'd recommend using this product with the windows open for your first time in case that happens to you.

This is a product I needed badly since I just moved into a trailer where previous tenants, drug addicts I was told and believe since we found papers for rules to the jail they lived part time, but, that's another story, now back to the product. The previous tenants smashed walls and did as much damage as possible so you can imagine all the work we had to put into it. With all the dust and dirt the rug took a beating. Well I figured for what you pay to rent a rug doctor I would try this and boy am glad I did. You wouldn't believe the dirt this thing picked up even after we vacuumed a few times. The water just about turned to mud. Well to bring this to a close it was like I had a new rug, great product and very easy to use. P.S. You may think the cleaner liquid is espensive but let me tell you, it will last a long time since you use so little of it.

Bissell Spotbot Pet Handsfree Spot and Stain Cleaner with Deep Reach Technology, 33N8A Review

Bissell Spotbot Pet Handsfree Spot and Stain Cleaner with Deep Reach Technology, 33N8A
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Well our 2 older cats (Lucy & Ethel) don't get sick often at all. For that I am grateful since I (the husband) am retired, and stuck to face whatever disaster comes while the wife is at work. But I am squeamish when it even comes to scooping their "you know what" when it is time and actually wear a gas mask if forced to do that job. I may be a USMC Combat Veteran, but I draw the line at liter boxes & Diapers! I may be brave, but I AIN'T no HERO!
My wife just bought an upright steam cleaner from Eureka since all our carpet is now about 20 years old. It was expensive carpet and we have no kids so it has worn extremely well but is still getting tired. And since I retired I keep getting into trouble for bringing in grease or oil stains after working on our motorcycles or motor scooters. No matter what I do, I am always getting into trouble one way or the other. It's kind of like I am a 62 year old Dennis The Menace according to the wife? Well her big & expensive steam cleaner is more trouble than I will EVER go to to use and when she is done with it we sometimes have a "fair" measure of success, most often not and it even seems to expand whatever the stain by spreading it around. NOT good and once that happens, nothing we try helps.
For the record, we used to just use Resolve or other similar cleaning chemicals & do the best we could by hand. At least this way we never, EVER made the stains worse. When I saw this to try on the Amazon Vine Program I knew it would just be another gadget that would stink, leak and aggravate me more than the LAST gimmick I tried....Before I get into my trial of this machine, here are a couple things you may or may not already know. It has 5 different buttons.
- 1 for Fresh Surface Stains.
- 1 for Set IN OLDER Stains.
- 1 for Pause & Resume
- 1 for Hose Attachment
- 1 for "STOP"
You choose whichever chemical you desire and add water also. Press the button for whatever type stain you have after placing the cleaner over your stain. The computer on-board will do the rest! 2 different brushes move in a weird way I can only describe as a motion similar to the motion of a car motor with a rotary engine. It's actually kind of hypnotic to watch but I was afraid to just LEAVE IT since the wife's steam cleaner can cause so much damage...I also have to admit this is designed for smaller "spot" type stains, NOT cleaning an entire carpet so just understand while it may work well for your different type stains, NOT just pet stains, it is for localized areas, not large sections of carpet. I also have to admit that since I don't have any pet stains but had 8 grease stains, that is what I tried this on. And it was so simple I didn't wait for my wife to get home and tell me I am "doing it wrong!) as usual either. I had 6 of the stains that were very OLD stains. I mean over 10 years old. The other 2 fresher (maybe a month old) from the latest motorcycle servicing....
This little unit actually worked. I mean it got out ALL of the stains, all 8. I have no idea how? More important, how it does so much better than a high priced steam cleaner. Maybe it it the chemicals used (provided with this unit)? Maybe the design of the brushes, or probably the combination? I don't know, I don't care. I used the "tough stain' setting which took 6 minutes to cycle through. (Easier "surface stains" only require a 3 minute cycle to clean.) I also used the hand manual cleaner to soak up some more of the wetness left after it finished. How can I NOT give this 5 stars? I never ever do until I have owned it over a year to verify it's durability. But this surpassed our other efforts by SO much I am beginning with a full 5 stars this time. If anything changes, I always update and will do so again with this & lower my rating if needed. But given the amazing job this did on such a wide variety of stains (old & new alike), I doubt this 5 stars will ever get downgraded? Short of blowing up, or leaking & stinking like all before it, it will deserve every bit of my 5 star rating.
A couple of thing maybe worth adding?
-It has a 7 Inch brush area
-Has a NICE 16 foot cord!
-Tank holds 32 ounces
-LOVE that it has a carry handle
-Includes BOTH the Oxy Gen 2 cleaner (16 ounces) AND 2X Ultra Pet Stain & Oder Chemical (8 ounces) TRIAL sizes however!

1st Update:
-Oh SHOCK! My wife is home and pointed out 2 more stains I missed. She says I "never see them, never will" whatever that means? Worked again on both and these are about 4-6 weeks old per my mean old wife....And I need to also point out a very important item. Even on these stains we could never get out using ANYTHING we ever tried? ALL we used was the single chemical provided called "2X Pet Stain"! Now I did set the computer at the full "SET IN OLDER STAINS" Program but never even added any of the so called Oxy Gen 2 cleaner they ask you to use for that setting. Never even needed it. This machine just keeps surprising me to no end. The cats sneak up on it to attack when it goes into it's quiet mode. But when that mode changes and the vacuum parts comes on? They are 2 20 pounds (EACH) old lady cats on a new quest to break the sound barrier in their retreat! Fun for the whole family.....

Hoover MaxExtract All-Terrain Carpet Cleaner, F7452900 Review

Hoover MaxExtract All-Terrain Carpet Cleaner, F7452900
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have previously used the Bissell 9400 ProHeat 2X Select Upright Deep Carpet Cleaner to clean the inevitable stains associated with cats and potty training little boys from my Berber carpet. A friend has that cleaner, so I borrowed it on several occasions before finally deciding to get one of my own. Just before I was ready to buy, Good Housekeeping ran a review on the Hoover SteamVac so I looked it up on Amazon. I read the reviews and decided to take my chances with it.
I am amazed at the difference in the two machines. The Bissell used to shear off fibers from the carpet and leave a nasty trail of what looks like hairballs behind as I worked. The clean and dirty tanks are in the same unit which is clever, but almost impossible to clean.
The Hoover has two tanks - one for clean hot water with a compartment for the cleaning solution, and one for the dirty water. Both water tanks hold a gallon. I had no problems loading the clean tank or removing the dirty tank. No dripping of dirty water, no puddles on the rug or the kitchen floor when changing tanks.
Like I said before, I've cleaned my entire house several times with the Bissell machine, but I was amazed at the almost muddy water that came out of the carpet. It was as if I'd never cleaned the floors before. The dirty tank is easy to rinse out and reattach. The trick is to "recline" the machine so the clean tank is laying on the ground attached to the handle. Unsnap the clips and the dirty tank comes right off with no problem at all. Clean it out, snap the lid back on and clip it back into place and then you can stand the handle back up and deal with the clean tank.
The suction on this machine is amazing. It used to take hours and hours for the carpet to dry when I used the Bissell. I'd have to turn the fans on high and let them go overnight to have dry carpets in the morning. Two hours after cleaning the carpet (2 cleaning/rinse passes plus a rinsing only pass) and the floors were nearly dry.
I tested the Hoover on my kitchen tile. I hate ceramic tile. I will never have it in another house, but I'm stuck with it for now. I usually use the Vapor Clean II steam/pressure cleaner on the tile, but decided to give the Hoover a try since it came with the cleaning solution for the job. I wouldn't want to use it every time I clean the kitchen floor, but for a quick cleaning before company comes it'll do the trick. Again, I did not have any puddle problems. If you release the trigger just before you finish your pull stroke you won't have any puddling to speak of. The Hoover does a great job sucking up the water on the tile and even gets the water from the grout. It doesn't do a great job on grout because that's not what it's designed to do. I'll stick to my VaporClean and the special brush I have for that.
I'm also happy with the amount of cleaner used. The Bissell goes through cleaning solution at a much faster rate than the Hoover does. I like that, since leaving soap on the fibers is just going to make the floor get dirty faster.
The only things I'm not thrilled with:
The cleaning solution dispenser is integrated with the clean water tank. I wish it came with a spout or something attached so that pouring out leftover solution wasn't so messy. I know I could leave the solution in there between uses, but I have already had to pour out leftover carpet solution to switch to the hard surface cleaner - then I had to put the hard surface cleaner back in the bottle to switch back for more carpet work. Some sort of retractable spout or a reversable plug with a spout attached would be great.
The hose attachment is kind of flimsy. I've had the whole hose assembly fall off several times as I was changing tanks. It's not a huge deal, but it's annoying to the point that I'm considering taking that part off and storing it separately until I need to use the hand tools.
Buy this cleaner - you won't be disappointed!
UPDATE: January 2011
I still love this machine. I don't consider the drips that come from laying the handle down to be a problem. It's how the unit was designed. It's certainly not a return-worthy concern. I am capable of placing a towel on the floor to wipe up the drips from that, and it's never more than a few drips. And it's clean water, so who cares?
It still works great for me with no problems at all since I got it in 2007. I quit buying the detergent that goes with it and only use vinegar in the detergent tank now with no problems.
As far as the performance on carpet, it's still great. I shampooed the white carpet at my grandparents' house recently and they were mortified by how much black water came out of the machine. They've had their home professionally shampooed within the last year, too. Their carpet came clean and looked fantastic when I left.
I haven't used it on my carpet upstairs lately because I don't allow food up there, so there's not much need for more than regular vacuuming. I do use this machine more frequently on my kitchen tile than I thought I would, and I'm still happy with it. It gets the job done quickly, and the floor is dry when I'm done. It's loud, but not so loud that I don't want to use it.
Maybe they've changed things with the model since 2007, but my unit is still going strong. There may be better tools for the job out there, but until this one breaks I'm happy with what I've got. I'm not crazy, just satisfied. I'm not sure why that's so difficult to believe.

Bissell Little Green Multi-Purpose Compact Earth-Friendly Deep Cleaner, 1400-7 Review

Bissell Little Green Multi-Purpose Compact Earth-Friendly Deep Cleaner, 1400-7

My husband, albiet not from here, picked up this little gem after calling him and relaying that our son dumped the entire contents of a chocolate syrup bottle on his bedroom carpet. Home he came with this bissell. Only one they had at the store.
Assembly in two seconds, I kid you not. Didn't even need to look at the instructions. put in the cleaning solution, filled reservoir with water, set it down, plugged it in. Now, mind you, it took me about ten minutes, with a few minutes between each go, this syrup was well and good in the carpet, but I am deeply impressed. Throughly impressed. It's very light, even filled, it's compact, fits real nicely into our cleaning closet, and super easy to use. For the price we paid, it's paid for itself halfway with just the one room, compared to getting our carpets steam cleaned every few months. I would happily buy again.

BlueMagic 900 Carpet Stain & Spot Lifter - 22 oz. Aerosol Can Review

BlueMagic 900 Carpet Stain and Spot Lifter - 22 oz. Aerosol Can
Average Reviews:

I have tried a number of the consumer carpet spot cleaners - foaming, dry and vacuum, etc. They are all pretty much useless, except for Blue Magic. I was not able to find a local source, so I ordered it through Amazon - it was still worth the extra shipping charges! Blue Magic is marketed as a car cleaning product, but we have had no problems using it on home carpeting.
We have four cats. Cats make messes on carpet-some you find right away, and some you don't. Blue Magic tackles it all, old or new. Spray, wait a minute or less, blot, maybe rub a bit. End of problem. Seriously.

Hoover Platinum Collection Professional-Strength Carpet-and-Upholstery Detergent, 50 Ounces, AH30030 Review

Hoover Platinum Collection Professional-Strength Carpet-and-Upholstery Detergent, 50 Ounces, AH30030

From the other reviews, I expected a lot. I previously used Hoover's "Deep Cleansing" detergent (green bottles).
I didn't see a difference between the results I previously got and now with this "Platinum" and "Professional-Strength" version. I even used this product at double strength on high-traffic areas. The particularly dirty areas needed a second-pass; the spots I missed with a pre-treating spray were still there.
Since the "Deep Cleansing" detergent is available in 128oz bottles for about the same price as this 50oz bottle, I recommend the "Deep Cleansing" detergent.
Note: I used boiling hot water with a "Hoover F5912900 TurboPower 5200 SteamVac Carpet Cleaner with Clean Surge". I followed the tips from the reviews for the SteamVac and was very happy with the deep cleaning results from the SteamVac. I know my one-star review for this detergent is an anomaly from the other reviews, but using the exact same SteamVac and methods, but with different detergent, I saw that this "Professional-Strength" product costs more but did not perform better than the "Deep Cleansing" detergent. I don't think any other reviews point this out (at least not strongly enough -- I mean, twice the amount of cleaning power for the same price is a big deal, at least to me).

Hoover Platinum Collection Pet Plus Carpet-and-Upholstery Detergent, 50 Ounces, AH30035 Review

Hoover Platinum Collection Pet Plus Carpet-and-Upholstery Detergent, 50 Ounces, AH30035

I have tried, on a number of different occasions, a few of the Hoover carpet detergents: The lesser expensive Hoover Deep Cleansing detergent (a very nice all-purpose detergent), the Hoover Premium Pet Formula (great scent), and the (more expensive) Hoover Platinum Pet Plus. They are ALL great carpet cleaning detergents... but I would have to confess that I didn't find a huge cleaning difference between the Deep Cleansing and the Premium Pet Formula (I would favor the Pet Formula over the Deep Cleansing -- the Pet Formula has a lovely powdery scent and little bit more cleaning power that's worth an extra couple of bucks, I think).
All of that said, the Platinum Pet Plus detergent... whoa, that was a BIG cut above the rest. Twice the price, but twice the performance. It's a killer price-wise for me -- I can use an entire bottle of the stuff on just one good-sized room (we have a lot of dogs free-roaming our house plus we live in a rural mountain/country environment). But, if you compare it with the expense of professional carpet cleaning, or the cost to replace a room of carpet, a few extra bucks on the Platinum Pet Plus detergent is a great alternative when you have a seriously soiled carpet. In the end, I think I'll spring for the Platinum Pet Plus when the carpets are really THAT bad (more often than I'd like to confess to) or for a semi-annual cleaning, and then use the Premium Pet Formula for in-between light maintenance. If money were no object, I'd buy the Platinum Pet Plus every time. It's that good.
