Hoover Commercial Elite Upright Review

I had a Hoover Elite for nearly 20 years and I loved it. It was a workhorse, but it gave out right before Christmas in 2007. In a hurry to get a new vacuum to prepare for guests, I purchased a Dirt Devil. It was a disaster from the beginning. It blew dust everywhere instead of sucking it and although it was lightweight, there was no convenient place to grab it. The onboard attachments were very short so the vacuum HAD to be picked up to actually use them. I could go on and on about the negatives so I was not all that unhappy when it broke - except it was on Christmas day 2009 as I was doing the last minute vacuuming prior to picking up my house guest at the airport. This time I determined I would get a good vacuum cleaner even if it meant I had to go without vacuuming for awhile. Fortunately, I found this one and when it arrived, it was fairly easy to assemble. When I used it, I was very happy to have the power of Hoover back. Even though I had not been able to thoroughly vacuum for a few weeks, it sucked up pet fur with only 1 or 2 passes (instead of the 8-10 passes the Dirt Devil required) and took less time to vacuum my entire house than it took to vacuum a 6x9 area rug with the Dirt Devil. This is definitely a worthwhile purchase. it's not the prettiest vacuum in the world, but it more than makes up for lack of glamorous looks by how well it works. I highly recommend this vacuum.

HAAN SV-60 Steam Vacuum Review

HAAN SV-60 Steam Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased two of these as XMas gifts. My son called me to ask what he was doing wrong, it was very hard to push around and didn't clean very well. I went went over his house to try it myself. Well, what a piece of junk. In vacuum mode, it has only a little suction, which also sticks to the pad. It is hard to push because the pads are so thick that the wheels don't move on the floor. There are only 4 steam jets under and I don't think they let enough steam go through the heavy cleaning pad. Now I am not an engineer but after cleaning a big bathroom and part of the kitchen, the floor was sticky and the pad only had alittle dirt on it. The instructions tell you to lower the handle to make it easier to push,(that should tell you something)
I have a haan steam mop that uses a different pad and it works great..Yes we have to sweep or vacuum the floor first. I am not able to get the same original pads that came with my Haan steam mop so I am not sure if I will have to replace the mop when the original pads wear out. Might have to try these new pads.
I sent both of the Haan SV-60 machines back for refund. Don't work as advertised.

Royal SE 2800 Hand-Held Spot Cleaner Review

Royal SE 2800 Hand-Held Spot Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got the Dirt Devil Spot Scrubber for a gift at christmas and with two dog I thougtht this thing will really be handy. I have Two Border Collies they are Seven and Three so they are past the potty training, but the sopts from when they were potty training are still there. So the next day after I got it I decided to find a big old spot and man was I suprised at how well it got it out and how dry it was.
Pros
1.Corded for continuous power
2. Rotating Brush is good at scrubbing but gentle Enough not to ruin the rugs.
3.powerful suction
4. good cord length
Cons
1.Dirty water bin takes long to dry word of advice(shake it after rinsing leave near heater with end cap off)
Thats it for the cons
Now I will tell you about my experience with different cleaners. My first one was the hoover steam vac with the brushes. It ruined my carpets the rotating brushes unwind the threads in the rug leaving it looking matted down. The next machine I used was the cordless Bissell Spot Lifter which was good but did not hold a good charge and there was no power brush.
So there you have it I would defenitly recomend this product. It did a good job on carpets in the car and out of the car. I have two tips for using it(when doing the car don't be stupid like some of the other people that have recommended it, you can only use it inthe upright position so don't try and do the backrest of your car because it will activate the float and shut off the suction)Also clean up and sand with a vacuum before using it. Another person wrote that the sand clogged the dirty water intake, well if that person was smart they would have read the directions where it said for water pick up only clean any bulky items before using this machine. That is all I have to say about this product.
Thank You

Bissell PowerGlide Platinum Upright Vacuum, Bagged, Wine Red, 3545-2 Review

Bissell PowerGlide Platinum Upright Vacuum, Bagged, Wine Red, 3545-2
Average Reviews:

I purchased this vacuum less than 6 months ago and it is already useless. About 2 months ago, the Turbo Brush attachment (which was wonderful at first) stopped working completely. Unfortunate, but the vacuum still worked nicely. Currently, I vacuumed my whole house and smelled that familiar hot smell and thought I was burning through a belt. Not so. Upon opening the bottom of the vacuum I found that the beater bar had caused so much friction with the vacuum casing that it burned through 2 layers of plastic casing on the vacuum unit. It cannot be repaired and Bissell customer service won't do anything despite it being under warranty. I am taking the unit back to the store where I purchased it for a refund!

Eureka 166DX Boss Lightweight Stick Vacuum Review

Eureka 166DX Boss Lightweight Stick Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Here's my situation. I have a cat box in my bathroom and I really didn't like sweeping the kitty litter up every day - the broom would kick up dust and I would invariably miss a bit of kitty litter.
I needed something small, light that I could drag out and buzz around the bathroom (hard surface) with. This fits the bill perfectly. It's not exactly quiet, but not too bad either.
I don't like the rechargeable stick vacs because my closet doesn't have a power outlet and I really don't want to leave it out and look at the thing. In addition, corded stick vacs tend to be more powerful and don't run down, but you do have to put up with a cord.
This stick vac is basically a dustbuster with a telescopic handle and a detachable (bare) floor nozzle. It is not going to compete with a regular vacuum, but for light cleanup (e.g. kitty litter) it works just fine. I also use it on the low-pile carpeting just outside the bathroom door to pick up any stray kitty litter and it gets most of it. I don't think you'd want to use it on thicker pile carpeting or for large areas especially considering the floor nozzle has no brush roller - it really is designed for hard floors.
It does what I need -- no more kicking up dust and no more kitty litter in the bathroom (I use it every day). I am happy with my purchase.

Dyson DC33 Multi floor Review

Dyson DC33 Multi floor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have tried both of these, and have come to the conclusion that the DC33 is superior. Here's why:
-The suction and brush bar are clearly more powerful. This is what sold me. I can see the difference in carpet lines (medium pile carpet) when I use one or the other.
-35ft cord is a significant benefit over the 25ft cord. I can almost do the entire floor by just plugging in a single outlet. Two would cover the whole house. With the DC25, I had to constantly unplug and replug.
-Larger dustbin means I can keep vacuuming for longer without emptying. Also, the design on this one seems to keep the shroud (the perforated shield inside the canister) freer of stuck-on dust.
-Quieter
-Although a bit larger, it is a similar weight to the DC25.
-Critical sections can be easily taken apart to clear blockages.
-The DC25 has a tiny plastic piece that keeps the vacuum from tipping over in upright mode due to the ball mechanism. If I tilt the vacuum to the side while it is close to being upright, I can hear a loud snap as the plastic piece is forced into a position where it shouldn't be. I can see this breaking really soon.
There are some shortcomings:
-The wand is a clear cost cutting measure. It is plastic rather than aluminum. Also, the handle is missing (present in the DC25) a contoured plastic piece that makes it much more ergonomic to hold when using the wand. It also requires an extra button to release AND another button to retract the wand. Lastly, when you release the wand from the hose, there is just a bare hose, rather than a similar cuff as the one at the end of the wand with a release button as on the DC25. It is still usable, but not as nice. It just adds to the already cumbersome wand system on the Dysons.
-The DC33 switches suction to the wand when in upright position whereas the DC25 switches it when the wand is drawn. A minor annoyance, especially if you're wearing a long sleeved shirt; it may get sucked in when you hold the handle.
-No ball, but to me the difference in maneuverability is negligible.
Update 3/4/2011: I have used this vacuum for a few months now. I returned the DC25 and do not miss it at all. The DC33 continues to perform admirably. True to Dyson's claim, the suction is as good as new. I've washed the filters once and the process was simple, much simpler than going to the store and buying filter bags. Vacuuming is a pleasure, due to getting the instant gratification of seeing the the dust collect in the bin, and the clean exhaust. It's probably subconscious, but as a sufferer of seasonal allergies and constant nasal congestion, I feel like I can breathe better when I vacuum.
The only pain has been removing hair from the brush bar. It doesn't pop off, unlike the DC25, so removing hair can be a cumbersome process.

LadyBug 2150 Dry Vapor Steam Cleaner Review

LadyBug 2150 Dry Vapor Steam Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Very good if you know what vapor cleaning is about.
It is lightweight and very easy to store and move around the house, so you can use it every day to clean your bare floors and stop using chemicals (perfect when you have crawling babies).
It turns off automatically when operational temperature is reached.
It has steel boiler and best of all, continous fill which makes it good to work all day long if you wish.
Standard equipment comes with many accessories and towels, but you'll have to learn how to hold the towel with the brush clips so you don't loose power and avoid losing the towel every five minutes. You will also have to learn which accessory will allow you to do different kinds of jobs.
This is not a steam cleaner with a suction system to retrieve dirty water. You have to retieve it with clean dry towels.
Despite coming with a squegee, you will need a second hand with a dry cloth on windows and mirrors.
In carpets you will need first a shampoo. The vapor cleaner is good for maintenance in between shampoos and right after the shampoo, to eliminate chemicals from the carpet.

Germ Guardian GGU300 2-in-1 Bagless Upright Canister Vacuum with Nano Silver Technology Review

Germ Guardian GGU300 2-in-1 Bagless Upright Canister Vacuum with Nano Silver Technology
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I didnt buy this from Amazon but in a store. Thought I would check out what the reviews were and saw that there were none. I like the fact that it is two in one because I have area rugs for a stand up vac and tons of bare floors for the canister. I was tired of having two vaccums. Great suction. Once you remember to turn the hose to get it on and off it is easy. It is bagless which is useful. There are a couple of drawbacks. DO NOT LIFT THE VAC UP BY THE WAND HANDLE. Lift it by the handle that was intended to be used for lifting. When you lift it by the want handle the handle decides it wants to turn. It is a remvable handle and it has a raised ball on it to slide into a slot. It will dislodge from the slot when you lift the vaccum up by the wand handle and get stuck. It is very difficult to get it back to rights. It is a loud vaccum but not overly loud. I do not like the fact that the attachment intended to be used with the canister portion hasn't a place to be stored. And dirt seems to stick to the cord. You will find that out when you go to wrap it up. It is a very attractive vaccum, easy to use, great suction, versitile.

EL4101A%2D Black Canister Vacuum Cleaner Review

EL4101A%2D Black Canister Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Since I've spent the past 24 hours (or more) researching vacuums -- and bought two to try out at home, side by side -- I thought I should share my findings with the rest of you.
First off, my 23-year-old Hoover canister finally died on me a few weeks ago. I'd had the thing at the shop maybe once for some work, but other than that, it still worked like a charm til the very end. It had a self-propelling power head that roared like a elephant and scared small children and pets, but it but really sucked the dirt in its heyday. It was sort of scary on hardwood, but I made do. After all, it was practically a member of the family -- the same age as my oldest son.
So when it died, I knew it would be a hard act to follow. I knew I wanted a canister. To tell you the truth, what I like most are the long wands that I use to clean everything from ceiling fans to air vents to baseboards. The little attachment hoses on the uprights just didn't seem like they'd do the trick. I liked the idea of bagless, though I'd never tried one. The guy who cleans my carpet once a year recommended Dyson. After looking at Dysons, reading reviews and seeing the prices, I decided I didn't want to spend that kind of money.
In the end, I decided to test-drive two vacuums: the Electrolux 4101A Ergospace Green Canister ($149 at Costco) and the Hoover MultiCyclonic SH40060 ($149 at Target.) Both sounded great online, so I decided to buy them both, assemble them and do a side-by-side comparison.
Bottom line: The Electrolux, cute and "green" as it is, is going back. The Hoover is staying.
The Hoover isn't as well made as my 23-year-old dearly departed - that's obvious. But it seems far more solid than the Electrolux. I nearly broke the Electrolux simply trying to unsnap and resnap the filter compartment -- the plastic seems thin (yes, I know it's recycled) and flimsy. I can't imagine it holding up a year -- I'm not sure it will last a month. Same thing with the plastic hose, which also seems flimsy compared to the Hoover. Even the power nozzle-heads (two of them, which I can't imagine wanting to swap out very often) seem sort of cheap. On the plus side, the telescoping wand works very well and is nice and long, the 3-in-1 crevice tool is sort of ingenious once you figure it out (no help from the manual there!) and the motor has variable speeds, which is neat. Another negative: The hot air "exhaust" blows out straight up at you -- I felt like I was in a wind tunnel (a hot wind tunnel) if I got too near the canister.
The Hoover, on the other hand, snaps together neatly with lots of clever, well-designed little latches. The bagless design seems very easy to use, and economical. Two filters, both washable. The wand telescopes, not quite as smoothly as the Electrolux, but it's fine (much better than the two-part wand in my old Hoover.) The tools (just two and admittedly not great) store neatly in the rather heavy hose handle. The handle has to be heavy, I guess, because it contains the power switch - which is another big improvement over my old Hoover (and the Electrolux), where the power switch is in the canister, which may be some feet away away from you just when you want it most.
But in the end I wanted a vacuum that could clean. So I decided to run each through its paces on my hardwood floor. Fairly dirty and dusty, since as I said, my old Hoover died "a few weeks ago."
The Electrolux was first up. It wasn't bad, though the blowing hot air was a bit bothersome. It was quiet and it moved easily along the floor. It's lightweight and easy to pull. But there was one stubborn Christmas tree needle stuck in the baseboard that just wouldn't budge, even though I went over it again and again. Christmas tree needles are my litmus test.
So out comes the Hoover, to see what it can do. It's a bit heavy, but feels solid and sturdy in a reassuring way. It's much quieter than my old vacuum. I can actually carry on a conversation while I'm cleaning. I can hear the doorbell ring.
And when it gets to the Christmas tree needle -- wooooosh! Gone. Just like that.
What was I thinking? Momentarily swayed by a cute green bungee-cord (what's that for, anyway?) and the promise of being green and environmentally correct, I nearly forgot the most important rule of vacuum purchasing. A vacuum needs to vacuum well. I think the Hoover MultiCyclonic and I will have a beautiful life together. And it's sturdy little blue body is growing on me.

Miele : S7210 Twist Upright Vacuum (Royal Blue) Review

Miele : S7210 Twist Upright Vacuum (Royal Blue)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just purchased the Miele Twist and I know how these reviews are important to me, so I hope that I can help someone esle who is considering the Miele S7 series (any model).
I researched the motors as I was told by the salesperson that the "Twist" has a cheaper motor than the Salsa, etc. This is not true. They all have the same motor - look at Miele's website. The $100 difference is the filter and headlight. You can purchase the better filter and put it in the Twist and have the same machine without the light.
I debated on purchasing off of the web, so I could save money. In my research I found that Authorized Dealers DO NOT honor the warranty if purchased from the web!!! So buyer beware. Upon purchasing and giving it a test run, when I went to use the hose attachment it came out of the machine before I could even stretch it to full length, which is really NOT very far, if you like to vac high places - forget it. The hose attachment is much like a dryer vent.
Bottom line:
The Miele Twist is VERY easy to vac with and because it is on a petite side it can get to many little places and the swivel future is wonderful. It vacuums well, however, going over the same area with my old Riccar, I could hear it picking up debris that apparently the Miele missed. I think this machine is good, however, I think there are others that might be better for the price. I rate it a 3 star.

Oreck XL 8-Pound Upright Hotel Vacuum Cleaner Review

Oreck XL 8-Pound Upright Hotel Vacuum Cleaner
Average Reviews:

I have to admit that I fell for the "if it costs more it must be better" theory when I purchased this vacuum. It does the job adequately enough, however, I find it is very hard to "push" along as you vacuum and I do not have any extra plush carpeting; just basic apartment carpeting! I have to really put my shoulders into pushing it along. I know there are less expensive vacuums out there that are much easier to use. I've already invested a lot of money into this purchase so I plan to make the best of it, however, if I had it to do over again, I would have went into a store and actually tried some vacuums first; I ordered this one online without ever trying it first and regret that now. The lesson here is do not fall victim to the hype of a product you see on tv!

Dyson DC23 TurbineHead Canister Vacuum Review

Dyson DC23 TurbineHead Canister Vacuum
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Despite the fact that the Dysons have never been a top pick on Consumer Reports (even though they consistently rate high for brand reliability), I went ahead and purchased the DC23 Turbinehead from Target for $399.
As people often find when purchasing a new vacuum, they pick up a lot of dust and dirt in the carpet that their old vacuum left behind. Mainly because most older vacuums just lose suction even if you replace the filters and maintain all the parts. I find that to be frustrating and disappointing, and that's mainly one of the reasons that I went with the Dyson -- I'm hoping it lives up to their tagline (Never Loses Suction).
The suction on the DC23 is good. The turbine head attachment spins quickly and pulls in cat litter and other little particles in the carpet. I was revolted by the giant thick dust ball I picked up in just one bedroom with the first use. The DC23 does it's job well. So here's the run down of what I like and don't like about this model:
Likes
-Excellent suction, vacuums well. Easily picks up all the cat hair and cat litter I throw at it.
-Small, light weight and portable
-Beautifully designed -- it's shocking to look at this model next to all the Hoovers, Dirt Devils, and Bissells of the world that look like something straight out of the 80's. Also glad they are moving away from the yellow plastic!
-Easy to empty dust bin, no bags
-Because of the small head, this vacuum can go where most uprights cannot -- under beds and tables.
Dislikes
-It's a little expensive, however, will be well worth it if it actually lasts a long time without losing suction
-Storage is a little flimsy -- the hose just sort of hangs out off of the vacuum and the head attachment very loosely attaches to the canister base.
